It has been a minute since I have written anything on here. I thought I would update you all on what's new, and what is to come.
First, I think the last time I was here, I had announced I was engaged. That hasn't changed. Still engaged, but no wedding date (set in stone) just yet, although we have it narrowed down to a date and possibly a venue. I will do my best to keep you all updated and announce the big date. Actually, I will do better than that. I PROMISE to tell you when we have an official date.
Another big change is that I am changing career paths. In June of 2023, I left the family law firm I worked at for over two years, and I am now studying to be a fully licensed financial professional. I have to pass a series of registrations, and it is totally kicking my butt right now. I haven't studied this hard since high school, and even then, I think I didn't study that hard.
I can't really pin point at what exactly made me decide that going into financial services was for me, except that I have learned a ton about finances, budgeting, rebuilding a financial life after divorce and the desire to want to make more money as a woman. I also want to help other women do the same. At the law firm I was at, I was an intake specialist. I was on the phone all day long talking to potential clients about their cases. Here is a little fact for you: nearly 70% of all divorces are initiated by women.
A lot of the women that I spoke to who were contemplating divorce or had initiated the action did not have a job or any sort of income. They took care of the home and children, and more often than not, they would pay the bills thanks to having a joint account, but they had very little understanding of assets they may have, what their spouse may have had, retirement, life insurance, investments. They might know how much income their spouse makes, but that is relatively about it.
They also come in with expectations. I was not (and still am not) a family law attorney, so I could not provide legal advice. However, hearing the expectations from women regarding the home they shared with their spouse and how much spousal support and child support they were expecting made me realize that a lot of women had very little to no understanding of what was at stake. They were also provided with very poor advice from well meaning friends regarding what they may be entitled to.
I should take this time to tell you that if you have a legal situation, definitely contact an attorney. Do not rely on what you read on google or social media. If you are in Southern California, I know several amazing family law attorneys.
All that to say, I can see a need. I still see a need. I have gone through a divorce and I wish I had known regarding finances and assets and building a financial future for myself as one who was now having to support herself. I couldn't rely on any one else. I especially could not rely on an ex-spouse. It was up to me to make some changes and get myself out of the hole I had found myself in at the time.
It is time women started talking more about money and get involved in the world of finance and start making smart financial and business decisions for themselves. Not for anyone else, even if the money you end up making is going to help serve someone else.
My sleeves are rolled up and I am so excited to get to work and help women (and families) create the life they dream. I so fully believe in women being a part of the conversation when it comes to building wealth within their homes and giving back. I also believe in women having their own damn thing.
But, before I can fully do any of that, I got to finish studying and pass all these exams! So your prayers would be mighty appreciated!
I have also created an online space with a newsletter (coming REALLY SOON) for women who are dreamers and want to dream build together. There will be inspiration, along with advice, resources, and a little entertainment (because life is too short to be boring).
You can follow me on Instagram @tiffanyrrush and @dreambuildwithtiffanyrhea for daily updates and all the happenings.
That is all for now!
