Let's Step It Up

A lot of you who follow me are in the same boat: you have a job that for the most part provided for your basic needs, until all of a sudden, the world is now experiencing a major health crisis. Therefore, our world is now experiencing a major economic crisis due to the extreme, but necessary measures that are needing to be taken in order to protect our most vulnerable and to flatten the curve of this insane virus.
You are unsure where your next paycheck is going to come from. I feel you. Yes, I know that we can hope and pray that the government will provide some help and hope for you and your family financially, but I am going to be as blunt as I can but in as much love I can muster.....
Please don’t rely on the government to help. Take the initiative to provide and care for yourself and your own family.
I say this as someone who grew up watching her daddy who worked hard go through job loss whenever the economy took a hit, and he would pound the pavement to find a new job. My sister and I worked part time jobs while in high school. My mom worked a part time job as well. I remember having to help and contribute to the mortgage or bills as a 17 and 18 year old while a junior and senior in high school.
I remember my mom calling to see if we could qualify for food stamps or anything to help our family, and they told us no. That between my job, my sister’s job, and my mom’s job, we made too much money. We were making NOTHING. And the government would not help us.
This isn't a political post. This is just the reality. It is up to you to take care of your family and provide financially. There are a ton of ways we can do that now.
Working from home has suddenly become very popular, even though a lot of us may have been forced to work at home right now. Granted, I know it may not be your first choice in terms of career. You love having a job or you loved your current career, so it hurts a little bit that you have to even consider other options when you have worked so hard to get to where you currently are.
Sister friend, I feel you big time! I have no idea how things are going to turn out with my current job. At the end of this, I may not have a job at all. Which is why I am so grateful for opportunities like I am about to share with you.
Stop looking at side hustles, direct selling businesses, network marketing businesses, or at home sales jobs as not real jobs. That is not the truth, and honestly, they are providing a great deal of opportunity to hurting people right now. People who are desperate to provide their families with a little extra side income, even if their full time job may come back to them.
They are looking for something right now. Something that they love. Something that matters. Something that provides what they love, provides community, friendship, and perhaps provide a little sunshine and fun to our bleak times.
When I decided to join the movement of Beautycounter, I did so mostly so I could obtain a discount on my skin care and beauty products. I was already really passionate about safer products in my home. If you were to visit my house, you would see my line up of safer cleaning products, my house of essential oils, and my "hippy" makeup products. I even use safer feminine care! LOL! So, for me, making the switch hasn't been that much of a stretch because I have been gradually making the switch for the last 5 years. I had no way of predicting what was to come literally two weeks later in our country. I had no way of knowing that I would be sitting at home and not being able to work (as well as not being paid) and trying to navigate this new reality.
So, I am jumping with both feet in even though originally this was not my plan. I was okay with doing what I was doing. But now, here I am.
Here you are.
But Tiff, personal care? Lipstick? Skin care? Aren't there more serious problems or businesses out there? Doesn't it seem a little insensitive to encourage a woman to purchase lipstick when her family has an uncertain financial future right now? Aren't we all struggling?
Yes. And no.
Yes, we are all struggling. Yes, you could make a case for more "serious" businesses that you could join or start. You could certainly write it off as just lipstick and skin care (but you would be wrong).
No, it is not insensitive. It would be insensitive, and not very nice, if I had found something that could help my family, and choose to keep it to myself and help no one else. It is your choice whether you want to take action on the opportunities presented to you. I think that is the great thing about it, right? We get to choose. Even if it feels right now like a lot of decisions are being made without your input. For instance, you may have been laid off....was that your choice? Certainly not.
This is where you get to choose to take charge, lead with community, and make an impact for your family and those around you. You can provide incredibly safer products for your family and friends, and make an income that also makes an impact. The possibilities are endless on what you are able to achieve in your own business because you have a voice. You have a say.
So now it is time to start.
I did a little research the other day on troubled economic times and personal care businesses. Did you know that during the Great Depression, there was an increase in sales of lipstick? Why would lipstick sales, of all things, increase during one of the most traumatic economic perils in our history?
Women justified the price of a lipstick because it made them feel better for a moment. The truth is that when we look good, we feel good. It lifts our spirits. And with social media now one of main forms of communication with our friends from all over the country and world, prettying ourselves allows us to feel good when we put our best face forward. I highly recommend you read this article from Huffington Post about "The Lipstick Effect."
So you see, personal care industries are a great opportunity to be a part of. People are still going to invest in themselves. They will still buy shampoo. They will still buy lotions and makeup. They will still need those things and they aren't going away anytime soon.
If you are looking for a side business, or maybe a brand new career for a brand new start for yourself and your family, may I encourage you to check out Beautycounter? I honestly think what Beautycounter is doing is amazing right now. I am so excited that their mission is simply to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Not just Beautycounter products. Safer products everywhere. What a cool movement to be a part of. I had told you that I had already been on this mission personally over the last five years. So joining with a company like Beautycounter was a no brainer, even if at first it was just to get a discount.
Best news ever for this month? Beautycounter really wants people to get started with as little limitations as possible. Through March 31, when you join Beautycounter with a starter set, you will have the enrollment kit for free (a $98 value!).

Plus, there are multiple starter sets available for every budget. So if you are really hard up for cash at this moment, but you are interested in starting a business to provide an additional stream of income, there is even a starter set for $100. This $100 starter set contains a whole host of samples so that you can instantly begin sharing with your friends and family the goodness of these products, and begin your business on the right foot.
Plus, you will get a 25% discount on any purchases you make. It is a great way to save on your beauty and skin care needs. I am a total skin care and beauty junky. And if your friends and family purchase from you, you can make up to 35% commission from those sales, along with additional income in the form of bonus overrides should you choose to form a team who want to join you in the mission of #businessofclean and #betterbeauty.
Obviously, you will have a ton of questions. You should have a ton of questions. So I am here for you. If you would like to know more about our movement to provide safer products in the hands of everyone, please visit Beautycounter to learn more about our story, how we got started, and what it means to be a part of this movement.
If you have any questions, please send me an email at tiffanyharp@gmail.com and I would love to schedule a time to chat with you and see if this would be a good fit for you. I think that is important too. You must feel good about what you are doing and what you are spending your time on. It matters. Truly.
I can't wait to chat with you and welcome you to this company. This isn't just about lipstick. It is so much more.
If you are scared, good. It is okay to be scared.
But are you going to leap?
