Craving Normal and Fun

Last night, I had a random thought to record myself washing my face while chatting with my insta friends and trying to encourage them. I don't even think I played it back to "approve" it because I just went ahead and posted it to my IGTV and crossed my fingers.

Haha! I think what is really going to happen is that people will laugh at how much I struggled with washing my face and talking at the same time. The struggle is real, y'all. It is not easy to do. I don't know how some of you do it regularly as part of your job. I want to be you when I grow up.

I am no beauty or skin care expert by any means, but right now, I think a great deal of us are just craving something fun, pretty, normal, different in order to alleviate the stress we may be experiencing right now. We are dealing with a global economic and health crisis and quite frankly, it does take its toll.

Don't give up the things that bring you joy simply because the world is in a panic. Those simple comforts and activities lift our spirits and create a sense of calm in the midst of hardness. It is okay to enjoy things right now.

I was listening to a message from the founder and CEO of Beautycounter, Gregg Renfrew, encouraging us to take a day off today. Mostly, she was encouraging those of us who work as consultants or in any type of business to take a break from the hustle, even though the majority of us are experiencing anxiety over how we are going to provide for our families. She is well aware and compassionate and knows that so many are struggling. She encouraged us, however, to take Friday off and to enjoy our families. Take a bath in the middle of the day. Snuggle with your kids. Go for a walk or hike or workout. Do something that will clear your mind and ease your stress. Stress is and has always been a killer. And with this virus going around, stress can make you more susceptible to the possibility of catching this virus.

Let's do the things that we enjoy. Host an online bible study so you can see your friends face to face. Or host a fun self care night with your girlfriends or community, because you know we could all use a good laugh and some girl time!

Read that book you have been wanting to read. Watch that movie or documentary that has been on your watchlist for months. Write that story. Write letters to those we can't touch physically right now. Get on FaceTime with your grandparents and loved ones. She encouraged us today to do what really matters, because then we can be refreshed and ready for work next week.

We have a lot of work to do. There are people who do not know where their next paycheck will come from. Pray for them. Share your resources. Invite them if you have something that could help them. But now is not the time to be selfish or to gloat. Let's lift one another.

There are others who are sick. They are fighting for their lives or they literally can't leave their homes because they are immunocompromised. Serve them. Find out what they need and provide for them. No expectations of them to pay it back or do the same for you. SERVE and be GENEROUS.

Together, we will get through this. My motto lately has been that God is not done. This whole thing is crazy and hard and uncertain. But, if we do it together and with humility and a little sacrifice and generosity, we will see the other side of this. Trust God and go!

Oh and P.S. If you desire a little self love today, go ahead and buy that lipstick or facial masque you have been putting off. We all could use a little pretty today. I have been known to buy myself a new shade of lipstick when I am feeling down and need to lift my spirits. Beautycounter is having a 10% off sale site wide right now. And if you aren't a Band of Beauty member yet, now is a great time to join in (you get a free gift too! Yay for free!)
